Butler, Wizards pick up lopsided win in New Jersey

Basketball Betting Lines

12/02/2008 - East Rutherford, NJ (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Caron Butler scored 22 points and dished out 10 assists, leading the Washington Wizards to a 108-88 victory over the New Jersey Nets at IZOD Center.

Antawn Jamison added 22 points and eight rebounds for the Wizards, who came into the game having lost seven of eight. DeShawn Stevenson tallied 21 points thanks to 5-of-8 shooting from long range in the victory. Washington had come into the game 0-11 in the Eastern Conference and 0-6 on the road.

"We wanted to get the same start in the third quarter as we did in the first," Wizards head coach Ed Tapscott said. "Our guards did a really nice job. They got us into our offense and moved the ball. We had a lot of people getting touches."

Devin Harris scored 18 points for the Nets a game after torching the Suns for 47 points. Vince Carter added 16 points on 6-of-17 shooting for New Jersey, which snapped a three-game winning streak. Keyon Dooling had 14 points in the loss, while Brook Lopez had 10 points and nine rebounds.

"It's unacceptable to take a step back," Carter said. "It was just tough tonight. We got the shots we wanted, especially in the first half. They didn't fall in the second half. It's just one of those nights. There was a lack of aggression. They beat us to loose balls."

Tied at seven early, the Wizards went on a 7-0 run, as Stevenson's three gave the visitors an early 14-7 advantage. The Nets fought back toward the end of the frame, and the hosts faced an early one-point deficit after the opening quarter.

The teams went back-and-forth in the second quarter, and Washington maintained its one-point edge, 51-50, going into halftime.

The Wizards began the third quarter on a 14-3 spurt, increasing their lead to 12. Back-to-back three-pointers from Dee Brown gave Washington an 18-point edge, and the team held a comfortable 86-62 lead headed into the fourth.

Washington pushed its lead to as high as 27 in the fourth before cruising to the win.

Brandon Roy Favorite to Win 2007 NBA Rookie of the Year

Portland TrailBlazer’s guard, Brandon Roy, is MySportsbook.com’s overwhelming favorite to win the NBA Rookie of the Year odds.

Despite missing 20 games due to an injury earlier this season, Roy has definitely put up the best numbers of his 1st year peers. In 32 games, Roy is averaging 15.3 PPG, 4.2 boards and 3.5 assists in over 33 minutes of play per game. While most rookies breakdown as the season progresses (see Morrison), Roy is only getting stronger as his playing time and scoring average has increased each month.

With 30 or so games left in the regular season, Roy isn’t a lock for the award by any means. Other rookies are putting together some pretty impressive campaigns and a few could give Roy a run for the award with increased playing time. Heading the list is first pick, Andrea Bargnani of the Toronto Raptors. Even though he has started only two games all season, Bargnani is averaging 10.3 PPPG while shooting 35% from deep.

Randy Foye of the Minnesota Timberwolves could be set to give Roy the best competition NBA Rookie of the Year lines. With the benching of Mike James, Foye looks like he could be the starter in the T-Wolves backcourt for the rest of the season. So far, Foye has averaged 9 PPG and 2.4 assists in just under 21 minutes per game. With his new role of starter, Foye’s numbers will definitely increase. In his first game as the new starting guard this past Sunday, Foye had 10 points; five rebounds and 8 assists. More importantly, he logged 34 minutes of playing time; his third highest run of the season.

Adam Morrison, of the Charlotte Bobcats, was the favorite early on in the season after averaging 15+ PPG through the first month of the season. Ever since his torrid start, Morrison’s point production has declined each month. This really isn’t surprising, considering at 6’8” he only weighs 205 lbs. Obviously he will need to hit the weights big time during the off-season in order to keep from breaking down in the future.

Odds to Win the 2007 Mens NCAA Basketball Tournament
As of February 9, 2007, MySportsbook.com has released its coveted 2007 Mens NCAA Basketball Tournament betting odds. “March Madness betting ” only a month away, the top ranked Florida Gators are favorite at 7-2 to win it all. The defending champs have not disappointed at all this season and currently have a 22-2 record and are undefeated (9-0) in SEC play. The Gators’ thrive off of their extremely balanced, experienced and versatile attack. All five starters started in last seasons National Championship game. What is most impressive with this group is their balance; the five starters all average between 10.7 and 13.6 PPG. The Gators have been on an absolute roll having won 15 straight by an average of 16.4 PPG.

Right behind the Gators are the 5th ranked UNC Tar Heels at 9-2. The Heels (21-3, 7-2) are absolutely loaded with top notch talent and are as deep as any team in the country. A concern for the Tar Heels might be inexperience. Of their top four scorers/ minute earners, three are freshmen and the other is a sophomore. The rest of the regular season, the Tar Heels play only one team that is currently ranked (Duke). Their remaining opponents do combine for an impressive 107-58 record though.

Other teams that the MySportsbook.com members seem to believe will win it all include the west coasts’ top team #2 UCLA (6-1), #3 OSU behind man-child Greg Oden (8-1), and #4 Wisconsin (10-1) behind their defense which has given up 70+ points only three times all season.

Below is a list of some of the favorites to win the 2007 Men’s NCAA Basketball Championship lines. For the full list of teams and March Madness odds be sure to log onto MySportsbook.com.
